The Criminology Research Council recently approved grants for eight research projects.
The Chair of the CRC, (Mr Laurie Glanfield, AM) said the projects that were awarded grants will create new interest and add tremendously to our information base, and thus assist Governments around Australia in developing policies to prevent crime and monitor crime activity. Competition for grants has been most intense and the projects have been chosen for their academic quality and policy relevance.
The projects selected are:
- The Prevalence of Residential Care, Foster Care, Kinship Care and Adoption Experiences in the Victorian Juvenile Justice System
Dr Caroline O'Neill, University of Melbourne
A grant of $37,256 over a period of 12 months. - Facilitators and Inhibitors of Mandatory Reporting of Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect
Dr Shannon-Caroline Taylor, Dr Beverley Blaskett and Professor Doug Lloyd, University of Ballarat
A grant of $55,904 over a period of 2 years. - A Longitudinal Investigation of Psychosocial Risk Factors for Speeding Offences Among Young Motor Car Drivers
Mr Peter Palamara and Associate Professor Mark Stevenson, University of Western Australia
A grant of $34,067 over a period of 6 months. - Threats and Intimidation in the Lives of Professionals Employed in the Child Protection Field
Professor Fred Briggs, University of South Australia
A grant of $31,696.50 over a period of 12 months. - Investigating the Incidence of Criminal and Anti-Social Behaviour by Young People on the Strand in Townsville
Dr Glen Dawes and Mr Bruce Drummond, James Cook University
A grant of $20,960 over a period of 12 months. - Youth Justice: Criminal Trajectories
Mr Mark Lynch, Queensland Criminal Justice Commission
A grant of $47,282 over a period of 12 months. - Public CCTV in Australia: A Comparative Study of Establishment and Operation
Dr Adam Sutton and Dr Dean Wilson, University of Melbourne
A grant of $36,062 over a period of 6 months. - Pathways to Prevention: Evaluation of an Early Intervention Crime Prevention Program
Dr Kate Freiberg and Professor Ross Homel, Griffith University
A grant of $66,562 over a period of two years.
